Privacy policy

Your data, plainly.

What 16Span collects and why. We don't sell your information, show ads or track you across other sites.

Who we are

16Span is operated by [Operator legal name], which is responsible for your personal information. The person in charge of protecting it is [Name, title], at [contact email].

This policy covers the 16Span website, planner and Store Prices browser extension, and is part of the Terms of Service.

What we collect

  • Account: your name and email address, and your password (stored only in a form that can't be read back) or your profile from the sign-in service you chose. Used to run your account and send account emails.
  • Projects: what you describe, your postal or ZIP code, your conversation with the AI and your plans. Used to draft, save and price them. Sketch photos are read by the AI and not stored.
  • Usage and payments: how much AI work each request used, and a record of what you bought. Used to run your allowance and billing. Card details go to our payment processor, never to us.
  • Security: the IP address and browser of each signed-in session, and, if you use 16Span without an account, a scrambled form of your IP address that can't be turned back into it. Used to protect accounts and limit free use.
  • Store prices: the store you chose and the prices it returned. Used to price your materials list.

We use your information only for these purposes, or as you agree or the law requires.

Who we share it with

Service providers that process information for us, only to run 16Span: AI providers that draft your plans, a payment processor, an email service, our hosting and website infrastructure providers, the sign-in service you choose, and mapping services that turn a postal code into a location without knowing who asked.

We may also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or to a company that takes over 16Span and keeps this policy. We never sell it.

The extension

The Store Prices extension acts only when a 16Span page asks it to. It looks up materials and fills your cart at the stores you choose, from your browser, using those stores' own cookies for your chosen store and cart. It sends us the stores' product and price results, never your store account details, orders or browsing.

Cookies and tracking

We only use the cookies that keep you signed in, plus your browser's local storage for things like your theme and the plan you're working on. No advertising or analytics cookies, and we don't track you across other sites.

To learn which features people use, we count page views and clicks with Umami, an analytics tool we run on our own server. It sets no cookies and doesn't build a profile of you. It records the page (with share links, project links and postal codes taken out of the address), the name of the site that sent you, your browser and device type, your rough location (country, region and city, worked out from your IP address, which isn't stored), and which 16Span features you use, such as opening the materials list or sharing a plan. Never your plans, messages, email or postal code. If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, Umami doesn't count you at all.

On your first visit, one of our own cookies notes how you found us (the tag on the link you followed, the name of the site that sent you, never the full address, and the page you landed on), and we save that with your account if you sign up, to learn which of our posts and links bring people.

Where and how long

Your information is stored and processed outside Canada, mainly in the United States, where governments and courts may be able to access it under local law.

We keep it while your account is open, and delete it when you close your account or we no longer need it. Plans started without an account are deleted after a few days if no one claims them. Payment records are kept as long as tax law requires.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete your information, get a copy of it, or withdraw your consent, by emailing [contact email]. If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or in Quebec to the Commission d'accès à l'information.

16Span is not meant for children; you must be of the age of majority where you live to create an account.

Changes

If we change this policy in a significant way, we'll tell you by email or in the app before the change takes effect.
