Terms of Service

Terms of service.

The rules for using 16Span, in plain language. The short version: plans are a starting point, not an engineer's drawing, and what you build is your call.

Last updated October 16, 2026

The agreement

16Span is operated by [Operator legal name] (“16Span”, “we”, “us”). These terms are an agreement between you and us about your use of the 16Span website, the planner and the 16Span Store Prices browser extension (together, “the service”).

By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms and to the Safety disclaimer, which is part of them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

Plans are not engineered

16Span is a planning tool. It is not an engineer, an architect or a building official, and its plans are not stamped or reviewed by one. Blueprints, 3D models, materials lists, code checks, prices and build steps are drafted by AI from what you tell it, and they can be wrong.

You are responsible for deciding what to build and how, for getting the permits and inspections your project needs, and for having a licensed professional review it when it calls for one. The Safety disclaimer explains what to check before you build.

Accounts

You can draft your first plan without an account. To keep plans and keep using the AI, you need one. To create an account you must have reached the age of majority where you live.

  • Give us a real email address and keep your password to yourself. You're responsible for what happens under your account.
  • One account per person. Don't create extra accounts to get more of the free AI allowance.
  • Contractors and other businesses may use 16Span to plan projects for their clients.

Allowances and payments

Allowances. Free and Pro accounts include an allowance of AI usage over a rolling period. Counts like “about 4 new plans” are estimates for a typical project; a bigger project uses more. Allowance sizes can change, and the pricing page always shows the current ones.

Pro is a subscription billed in US dollars at the start of each billing period. It renews automatically until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from Manage billing in the account menu; Pro stays on until the end of the period you've paid for, and we don't refund the unused part of a period.

AI credits are one-time purchases in US dollars. They don't expire while your account is open and are used only after your allowance is spent. Credits have no cash value and can't be transferred. If a payment is refunded or disputed, the credits it bought are removed, which can leave your balance below zero if you had already spent them.

Refunds. Payments are non-refundable, except where the law requires otherwise. If something went wrong with a charge, contact us at [contact email] and we'll look into it.

Prices and taxes. We may change prices. A new Pro price applies from your next billing period after we tell you about it, so you have time to cancel. Applicable sales taxes may be added at checkout.

Payments are handled by our payment processor. Your card details go to it and never reach us.

Your content

Your project descriptions, photos, sketches, messages and plans are yours. You give us permission to store, copy, process and display them as needed to run the service for you, including sending them to the AI and infrastructure providers that process them on our behalf. The Privacy policy explains what we collect and who those providers are.

Only upload content you have the right to share. You may use the plans you make with 16Span for any lawful purpose, including paid work for clients. Because plans are generated from common building practice, another user's plan may look a lot like yours.

Store prices and carts

Material prices and products come from retailers such as Home Depot, RONA and Lowe's, for the store you choose. They are estimates: they can be wrong or out of date, and the price in store can differ. Confirm prices, quantities and products before you buy.

16Span is not affiliated with or endorsed by any retailer. Their names and trademarks belong to them.

When you add a materials list to a store's cart, you review and complete the purchase on the retailer's own site. That purchase is between you and the retailer, under its terms.

The 16Span Store Prices extension runs in your own browser. When you ask from 16Span, it looks up prices and fills carts at the stores you choose, using your session with that store.

Acceptable use

Please don't:

  • use the service for anything illegal, or to harm or harass anyone;
  • get around allowances, limits or security, or access the service by automated means other than the features we provide;
  • copy, resell or reverse-engineer the service, or overload or interfere with it;
  • upload malware, or content you don't have the right to use.

Our service

The 16Span software, design and brand belong to us. These terms let you use the service; they don't give you any other rights to it. If you send us feedback, we may use it freely.

We keep improving 16Span, so features can change, including free ones. The service may sometimes be unavailable. If we ever shut 16Span down, we'll give you reasonable notice where we can, so you can download your plans.

Closing an account

You can stop using 16Span anytime. To close your account, email [contact email]; closing it cancels Pro and deletes your saved plans.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or other people at risk. We'll tell you why, unless the law or a security reason stops us. The sections on plans, content, warranty, liability, law and disputes continue to apply after an account closes.

No warranty

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied, including of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement.

In particular, we don't promise that any plan is safe, structurally sound, buildable or compliant with the codes and rules where you live, or that any price, quantity or product is accurate or available.

Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the service or from anything built, changed or bought based on it.

To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability for all claims about the service is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and US$100.

You agree to cover our reasonable losses and costs from claims by others arising from your project, your content or your breach of these terms, to the extent the law allows.

Some places don't allow these limits. Where that's so, they apply only as far as the law permits, and nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under consumer protection law that can't be waived.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of [Province] and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes go to the courts of [Province], unless the consumer protection law where you live gives you the right to bring them in your local courts.

If you have a problem, please contact us at [contact email] first. Most things can be sorted out quickly, and we'll try for 30 days before either of us goes to court.

Changes

We may update these terms. For a significant change, we'll tell you by email or in the app at least 14 days before it takes effect, unless the change is needed sooner for legal or security reasons. If you keep using 16Span after a change takes effect, the updated terms apply. If you don't agree, you can close your account.

General

We may transfer these terms to someone who takes over 16Span, including a corporation we form to run it; we'll tell you if that happens, and your rights under them stay the same. You may not transfer them without our agreement.

If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. Not enforcing a part right away doesn't mean we give it up. These terms and the Safety disclaimer are the whole agreement between us about the service.
